How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the TRIO/SSS Program at the University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch. We are happy you are here. The TRIO/SSS Program and the Lobo Academy Summer Program is open to students who meet one eligibility requirements:

Eligibility Requirements

The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is available to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Low-income student: Family's taxable income for the last calendar year was less than 150% of the poverty level. Your family's federal tax information will be used to determine low-income status. Dependent students should use information from their parent's/s' previous years’ tax return; independent students should use information from their own. Determine whether you are considered a dependent or an independent student according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • First generation college student: Neither parent has a bachelor's degree*
    • *Note: A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree by your 18th birthday. This means that you are the first in your family to attend a two-year and/or four-year college/university to earn an associate’s and/or bachelor's degree. Being first-generation is a very proud accomplishment.
  • Student with a disability: Student has a documented disability that substantially limits the individual's participation in educational experiences and opportunities offered by the University, as determined by the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC).

In addition a student must:

  • Be admitted and enrolled at the University of New Mexico Gallup student seeking a degree.
  • Have an academic need for the program.
  • Be a citizen or permanent resident from the United States or meets the residency requirements for Federal student financial assistance.

Application instructions

  1. Complete the online TRIO/SSS application below.
    • Upload first page of 2020 Federal Taxes. For dependent students: if you were required to report your parents’/guardians’ income information on the FAFSA, they will need to submit their 2020 Federal Taxes.
    • If no 2020 Federal Taxes were filed, please complete the TRIO Income Verification Form.
  2. Complete the 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  3. Submit all official high school and college transcripts to UNMG Admissions office.
  4. If you cannot complete the online form, you may download and return completed paper applications and first page of 2020 federal taxes to:
